President Dr Arif Alvi says Pakistan has immense tourism potential withsnow-capped high peaks and other sightseeing attractions, including placesof historical importance.
He was addressing the concluding ceremony of Winter Sports Festival atNaltar area of Gilgit-Baltistan today (Sunday).
The President said GB is enriched with scenic beauty and around two millionlocal and international tourists visited the area last year as a result ofrestoration of peace in the region.
The President said steps are being taken to start international flightsfrom Gilgit Airport, improving road infrastructure and upgradingtelecommunication and internet facilities in the area.
He said better facilities to tourists mean more development and progress inthe area.
Dr Arif Alvi also commended Pakistan Army for eliminating terrorism fromthe country with the cooperation of the people, which is contributing inopening up tourism avenues in the area. He also appreciated Pakistan AirForce’s efforts for promoting skiing in Naltar since 1950s, which are nowyielding good results.
The President, on the occasion, distributed medals and trophies among thewinners.
It may be added that the Winter Sports Festival was jointly organized bythe Pakistan Army and the PAF.
