ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s NAB gets an international recognition by TransparencyInternational.
Transparency International (TI) on Thursday while expressing satisfactionover the actions of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to eliminatecorruption the country said that the anti-graft watchdog performed wellunder its present chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal.
According to Transparency International, the NAB was rejuvenated after ittook various initiatives, including adopting the combined investigationteam (CIT) system, in order to have collective wisdom in the conduct ofinquiries or investigations on merit.
The anti-graft agency has collected Rs153 billion from corrupt elements andfiled 530 references and its overall conviction ratio in the accountabilitycourts is about 70 per cent, the statement noted.
The Transparency International further outlined recommendations “to endcorruption and restore trust in politics” and stated “it is imperative toprevent opportunities for political corruption and to foster the integrityof political systems.”
Earlier today, despite of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claims oftaking measures for accountability and reducing corruption from thecountry, Pakistan’s ranking dropped to 120 out of 180 countries with aworse score of 32 out of 100.
