The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken a significant step to bring transparency to the handling of subordinate cases. Under this initiative, statistics for both filed and disposed of cases will be published weekly.
A sanctioned monthly case list will be released, and as of September 18th to 22nd, out of the 225 cases filed, no miscellaneous requests will be included. Lawyers have recommended a monthly sanctioned case list for the preparation of lawyers on both sides.
The Supreme Court will make every effort to implement the sanctioned case list for four weeks; it has already released the sanctioned case list for October, which is available on the Supreme Court website. On the other hand, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the increase in petroleum product prices.
According to media reports, the request, filed under Article 184(3) of the Constitution by Molvi Iqbal Haider, includes the federal government, the Election Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and OGRA as parties.
The petition requests that the courts instruct the caretaker government to use daily powers only to ensure the certainty of elections within 90 days and that under the constitution, the caretaker government does not have the authority to increase petroleum product prices.
It also requests that only elected representatives of the people can raise petroleum product prices. The petition further asks the courts to restrain any further increase in petroleum product prices until the general elections.
