In Islamabad, Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took action on Friday by suspending the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) summons notice directed at Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, and has requested a response from the agency.
The FIA had called upon Bushra Bibi for a voice-matching test regarding a leaked audio recording in which she purportedly urged Zulfi Bukhari, a former minister, to sell watches acquired by the former prime minister from Toshakhana. In the leaked audio, Bushra Bibi criticized the media for broadcasting it, claiming it was damaging her reputation and causing her distress.
The petition, filed by advocate Sardar Latif Khosa, contended that the primary case was already under consideration by the court, and on September 18, the court directed the FIA to proceed in accordance with the law. The advocate argued that if the FIA continued its actions, it could impinge on the petitioner's rights.
In her petition challenging the FIA's investigation into the leaked audio case, Bushra Bibi stressed that the main case was already before the IHC, with a hearing scheduled for October 30. Despite this ongoing legal process, the FIA issued a summons notice on September 19.
In her petition, Bushra Bibi implored the court to suspend the FIA's notice while the main case remained pending, citing concerns that the agency's actions could infringe upon her rights. Subsequently, the IHC temporarily halted the proceedings and requested a response from the FIA.
