ISLAMABAD, Nov 23 (APP): The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Wednesday decided to file three corruption references including first corruption reference against Tahir Basharat Cheema and others.
The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry at its headquarters.
In the first reference, Tahir Basharat Cheema and others were alleged to misuse of authority for making 437 illegal appointments in BS-1 to BS-16 in GEPCO, thus causing huge loss to the national exchequer.
Second corruption reference was decided to be filed against Mian Masood Akhtar, former Superintendent Engineer Pak PWD and others.
In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority in road construction projects.
Third corruption reference was decided to be filed against Gohar Ullah, Director of M/S Fateh Textile Mills, Hyderabad.
In this case, the accused persons were charged of illegal extraction of coal and sale in open market.
Thus causing a loss of Rs 2.241 billion to the national exchequer.
The Executive Board Meeting decided to authorize three investigations. First investigation was authorized against officials of Federal Employees Benevolent & Group Insurance Fund.
In this case, the accused persons were alleged to misuse authority in making illegal investment, thus causing a loss of Rs. 1332.549 million to the national exchequer.
Second investigation was authorized against officers/officials of Sindh Police Department, Govt of Sindh and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged to make illegal recruitments/appointments.
Thus they caused a loss of Rs. 471 million to the national exchequer. Third investigation was authorized against officers of GDA and others.
In this case, the accused persons were alleged for corruption and corrupt practices through illegal allotment of commercial and residential plots.
Thus caused a loss of approximately Rs. 45 million to the national exchequer. The Superior Courts also took notice of it.
The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) decided to authorize six inquiries. First inquiry was authorized against Saeed Ahmed Khan, Chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and others.
In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority, corruption and corrupt practices and illegal appointments. Thus caused a loss millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
Second inquiry was authorized against Tariq Shafiq Khan, MD Fakhruzzaman Ali Cheema, GM, National Fertilizer Marketing Limited (NFML) and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged to misuse authority in illegal appointments. Thus caused a loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
Third inquiry was authorized against Akhtar Baloch, Vice Chancellor, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari, Karachi and others.
In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority by making illegal appointment in university against prescribed rules and regulations. Thus caused a loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
Fourth inquiry was authorized against officers/officials of Port Qasim Authority and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged to misuse authority and commit corruption by illegal allotment of 490 acres of land to a private person. Thus caused a loss of Rs. 3.5 billion to the national exchequer.
Fifth inquiry was also authorized against management of Port Qasim Authority and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged to misuse of authority and carry out corruption by illegal allotment of 100 acres of land to a private firm.
Thus caused a loss of Rs 8 billion to the national exchequer.
Sixth inquiry was authorized against officers/officials of Revenue Department Layyah, Malik Ghulam Haider Thindh, Ex-MPA/MNA and others.
In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority, corruption and corrupt practices by allotting state land in the name of a private person unlawfully.
Thus caused a huge loss of Rs 100 million to the national exchequer.
The Executive Board Meeting decided to re-authorize six inquiries.
First inquiry was re-authorized against officers/officials of Settlement Department, Peshawar and others.
Second inquiry was re-authorized against CEO/ Directors of M/s Ideal Hydrotech Systems Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd (IHSPL) and others.
Third inquiry was re-authorized against officers/officials of Irrigation Department, Khairpur Division (East & West), District Khairpur and others.
Three inquiries were re-authorized against officer/officials of North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) District Sukkur, Larkana and Taluka Rohri.
In these cases, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority and misappropriation of government funds.
Thus caused a loss of over Rs 180 million to the national exchequer.
The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) decided to close four inquiries.
These pertains to Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Ex-Chief Minister KP and now sitting MNA, inquiry against M/s Mughal (Pvt) Ltd, and inquiry against Khayal Zaman Mazar Khan s/o Mazar Khan Yar Khan, MNA, NA-16 Hangu.
An investigation against Arif Allaudin, CEO AEDB and others was also closed due to lack of incriminating evidence.
At the end, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB said the bureau was committed to eradicate corruption by using all its resources and adopting Zero Tolerance Policy.
He directed all officers/officials of NAB to put in their best efforts in conduct of complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations against corrupt in accordance with law, transparently and on merit.
