SRINAGAR: MirWaiz Umer Farooq holds rally in Srinagar against Indian atrocities

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that Islam can’t be linked with extremism and terrorism. He was addressing a huge crowd at Pulwama where youths waved Islamic flags and shouted slogans in favour of freedom and Islam. “Linking Islam with violence, extremism and terrorism is unacceptable,” said Mirwaiz. He said that Kashmir has strong Sufi traditions and that they need to be strengthened. On the resolution of Kashmir issue, the Mirwaiz said that it can only be solved through the participation of people. “Kashmir is a political issue which needs to be resolved through people participation,” said Mirwaiz while referring to Rs 80000 crore developmental package announced by PM Modi during a rally in Srinagar. MirWaiz said that we want freedom from Indian policies. We have own rights, We can do better for us. He also took a dig at former Chief Minister and his namesake Omar Abdullah. “Omar Abdullah says not economic but political initiative is needed to resolve Kashmir. We want to ask him why he forgot it when he was in power?” asked Mirwaiz.
