*ISLAMABAD: The government on Thursday removed Finance Secretary Younus Dhaga from his post.*
The Cabinet Division secretary, Naveed Kamran Baloch, has been named new finance secretary.
It is noteworthy that Younus Dhaga played a key role in the government’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $6 billion bailout package and remained part of the delegation which met the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) team in China last week.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had last month carried out a major reshuffle in the country’s economic team.
Asad Umar, PTI MNA from Islamabad, stepped down as the country’s finance minister after PM Imran asked him to take the portfolio of petroleum, which he declined and opted to quit the federal cabinet.
Subsequently, the government named Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, a former World Bank official who served as finance minister from 2010-2013, as adviser on finance, replacing Umar.
Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed Syed Shabbar Zaidi, a chartered accountant by profession, as Chairman Federal Board of Revenue and an IMF official Reza Baqir as Governor State Bank of Pakistan.
