PEMRA council of complaints heavily fines private TV Channel

ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Council of Complaints, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recommended fine of Rs 100,000 on SAMAA TV channel for airing false news on death of SHO, Prang Police Station Charsada on April 23, this year.

The fine was imposed on the TV channel in its 67th meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Abdus Sattar Khan at PEMRA Regional Office, Peshawar, said a press release.

In the matter of complaint lodged by Muhammad Nadir Khan Advocate against programe "News at Six" of ARY News aired on April 30 2016, the Council took serious notice of non-appearance of representative of channel before the council and deferred the matter till next meeting, failing which ex- parte decision will be taken on the matter.

While hearing the matter of Khyber TV on airing derogatory and malicious remarks against the judiciary, CEO of the channel was summoned for the next meeting in order to present his version before the council.

The council also expressed concerns on the programmes being aired in the garb of Ramadan Transmissions and recommended the authority to monitor the content of the TV channels during the holy month of Ramadan.

Meeting was also attended by Syed Hammad Hussain Shah, Farah Sultan Ashraf, Farah Khan, Muhammad Irshad, members and Rahat Ali (RGM), Secretary Council of Complaints.
