ISLAMABAD: The Indian Army has significantly intensified its militaryexercises along the western border, with verified footage emerging fromofficial training zones in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, defence monitoringsources confirmed on Saturday.
Satellite-tagged videos from Jaisalmer desert show long convoys of BMP-2infantry combat vehicles conducting high-speed manoeuvres, indicatingenhanced readiness for mechanised operations in arid terrain adjacent tothe Pakistan border.
In separate drills near Haridwar, engineering units practised full-scaleriver-crossing operations using pontoon bridges and amphibious equipment.Official captions and overlays explicitly referenced the Chenab, Ravi, andSutlej rivers that flow through Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Defence analysts noted that while the locations have been geo-confirmed asestablished training areas rather than forward deployments, the deliberatenaming of Pakistani rivers carries clear signalling intent during a periodof heightened regional tension.
Lieutenant General Manoj Katiyar, Eastern Command General OfficerCommanding-in-Chief and architect of last May’s cross-border strikes,personally oversaw aspects of the exercise. In a widely circulatedstatement, he declared that troops were “training for offensive actionsthat involve crossing rivers aggressively”.
Military observers interpret the combined desert mobility andriver-crossing focus as preparation for potential multi-axis operationsacross the international border and the Line of Control, particularly inthe Punjab and Jammu sectors.
