ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa makes newrevelations over the judicial system priorities. CJP has said that hisfirst priority has always been to restore and maintain dignity of all thoseappearing before court.
While addressing a ceremony in Lahore today, he said that police reformsshould be implemented at earliest.
“Retired police officers played a pertinent role in police reforms. Myfirst priority, when I assumed charges as a Chief Justice, was to restoredignity of all those appearing before courts particularly the officersbelonging to police department,” he said.
CJ said that as a judge of High Court and Supreme Court he had witnessedsome incidents when police officials coming to courts for hearings were nottreated with dignity and respect.
“Whatever be the nature of case or circumstances the dignity, which is afundamental right, cannot be violated. One judge was preceded by supremejudicial council only on the allegation that he had humiliated and insulteda police official in court proceedings. We are making sure that suchincidents do not take place anywhere in future,” he added.
Asif Khosa further stated that ever since he became CJ, whenever somethinghappened in the country which took notice of public at large, there was anoutcry that CJ should take notice.
“I realized that because of the activism of some of my seniors, wheneversomething happened in the country, all the pressure was on the court. In myopinion, the situation needs to be tackled by concerned officials first. Ifthe officials are activated, there is no need for court to jump in. SupremeCourt has to be the last not the first resort,” he added.
The Chief Justice further stated that they established model courts forspeedy provision of justice.
