PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi have beenindicted in the cipher case. Both suspects have pleaded not guilty. Thespecial court of the Official Secrets Act has issued a notice to summon thegovernment lawyers for October 27.
During the previous hearing, copies of the investigation report were handedover to the suspects. Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain resumed the hearing ofthe cipher case in Adiala Jail under the Official Secrets Act today.
The PTI lawyers’ team is led by Naeem Haider Panjotha, and the FIA team isalso present in the court with the complete case record.
Before the hearing, FIA Special Prosecutor Shah Khawar spoke to the mediaoutside the jail, indicating that the suspects must be indicted today. Thedefense side is expected to file an application under Section 265D of theCrPC if the suspects plead not guilty. Shah Khawar added that if thesuspects plead not guilty, 28 witnesses will be summoned in sets.
On October 17, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah MahmoodQureshi could not be indicted in the cipher case, but copies of theinvestigation report were shared with the suspects.
