ISLAMABAD – The United States, whose withdrawal from northern Syria gaveTurkey the green light to attack Kurds in the region, would take “militaryaction” against Ankara if necessary, claims the country’s top diplomat.
“We prefer peace to war,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CNBC onMonday. “But in the event that kinetic action or military action is needed,you should know that President Trump is fully prepared to undertake thataction.”

“We need to stop the slaughter. We need to ensure that we don’t enable ISIS(the Islamic State militant group),” Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollentold a news conference in Washington, DC.

Ilham Ahmed, a Kurdish political leader and president of the SyrianDemocratic Council Executive Committee, also joined the lawmakers incondemning Ankara’s offensive.
