Zaka Ashraf, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) InterimManagement Committee, has secured a significant role in the upcominggeneral elections, according to reports by ARY News. This development comesas part of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal BhuttoZardari’s strategic move to establish provincial parliamentary boards inpreparation for the elections. These parliamentary boards will play acrucial role in determining the PPP’s candidates for the forthcominggeneral elections.
Notably, Zaka Ashraf had previously served on the PPP parliamentary boardfor Central Punjab, where he collaborated with prominent party figures suchas Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chaudhry Manzoor, HassanMurtaza, Rana Farooq Saeed, and Faisal Saleh Hayat. The formation ofseparate provincial parliamentary boards underscores the PPP’s commitmentto ensuring the selection of strong and competitive candidates across thecountry.
In response to growing anticipation, the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) announced that the general elections are scheduled to take place inthe last week of January 2024. The ECP is actively engaged in thedelimitation process of constituencies, with the initial list expected tobe published on September 27. The final delimitation list will be revealedon November 30, paving the way for the electoral process to commence as perthe 54-day election schedule. This decision comes after fervent demandsfrom political parties for the ECP to announce the election date, settingthe stage for a significant political event in Pakistan’s democratichistory.
