ISLAMABAD – United States administration refused to issue Visas to topIranian officials for UN General Assembly session, media reports haverevealed.
The United States refused to issue visas to a number of members of adelegation, accompanying Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to the UN GeneralAssembly in New York, Parviz Esmaeili, the Iranian presidential office’sdeputy chief of staff for communications, said on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, Rouhani’s administration said that IranianPresident would meet with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and FrenchPresident Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
“The failure to issue visas for the delegation, accompanying the president,some deputy chiefs of staff and the press pool runs counter to thediplomatic obligations officially assumed by the US government as a memberof the United Nations and the host country,” Esmaeili told the Iraniantelevision.
Previously, the United States issued visas to Iranian President HassanRouhani and Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in order to attend a high-levelmeeting at the UN General Assembly in New York. Iranian media outletsearlier reported, without providing a source, that Iran’s President and hisdelegation, including the foreign minister, might not attend the UN GeneralAssembly, as they still did not have US entry visas.
