LAHORE – Prime Minister Imran Khan says devolution of powers at grassrootslevel aimed at empowering people in the real sense is the most importantagenda of the PTI government.
Chairing a meeting on local bodies system in Lahore on Sunday, he said alocal bodies system will be introduced in which local governmentrepresentatives are not blackmailed at any level and they can fully focuson welfare of people.
The Prime Minister said besides devolution of powers it will also beensured that people hold their representatives accountable.
He said local bodies system will help bring new leadership to the fore.
Imran Khan said parliamentarians in the past would pay less attention onlegislation and more on acquiring powers and funds.
He said the objective to introduce new local bodies system is to breakstatus quo.

He said the new system will base on democratic values, and governance andtransparency will be ensured in it.
Those who attended the meeting included Federal Information MinisterChaudhry Fawad Hussain, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar,
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and thesenior PTI leadership.
