In a deeply controversial development, the mother of Bano — a young woman allegedly killed in the name of so-called “honour” in Balochistan — has publicly defended the act and appealed for the release of tribal leader Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai.
In a video statement circulating on social media, Bano’s mother claimed her daughter had been “punished” in accordance with Balochi tribal customs and traditions, asserting that the act was not a crime but a matter of cultural justice. She further insisted that Satakzai, who has been linked to the case and reportedly arrested, had no involvement in the incident and was being wrongly held.
“I request the authorities to release Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai and others,” she said, defending the killing as an accepted part of local tradition. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with human rights activists condemning the justification of such acts under the guise of tradition and calling for strong legal action to protect women and uphold the rule of law.
