Century s longest lunar eclipse to be visible in Pakistan

LAHORE – The lunar eclipse will last for one hour and 43 minutes with totalviability in Eastern Africa and Central Asia on July 27.

According to the US space research institute NASA, residents in other partsof Africa and Asia as well those in Europe, Australia, and South Americawill be able to see a partial lunar eclipse, reported a private tv newschannel on Sunday.

Skywatchers in North America will not be able to see the rare event andwill have to wait until 2020 to experience a total lunar eclipse.

During a lunar eclipse, the moon appears to be red because it lines upperfectly with the Earth and sun such that the Earth’s shadow totallyblocks the sun’s light.

Scientists say the reason this lunar eclipse is especially long is that themoon is passing almost directly through the central part of Earth’s shadow.
