KARACHI – Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah took notice of the allegedrape and murder of a woman at a hospital in Karachi, seeking a detailedreport of the incident.
The chief minister, in his statement on Monday, termed the incident‘unacceptable’ and inquired about the progress of the investigation.
The case relates to the arrest of a paramedical staff member of a hospitalwho was alleged to have caused the death of a 24-year-old woman through“wrong solution”.
According to the victim’s family, she was taken to a renowned hospital inKarachi’s Korangi area for treatment of a gum infection but lost her life.
Soon after the death, a first information report (FIR) was lodged by thebrother of the deceased against the paramedic Shahzeb and Dr Ayaz Abbasi.
The woman’s family alleged that the victim was raped before being injectedwith the solution; the relevant section for the alleged crime was not addedto the FIR, though police say the charge would be added after the probe isconcluded.
According to Deputy Inspector General East, Amir Farooqi the police areinvestigating the allegation. The cop confirmed that a preliminary medicalreport has revealed ‘sexual activity’ but a final report from the JinnahPostgraduate Medical Centre was awaited.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh Kaleem Imam, alsoordered Korangi’s senior superintendent of police as well as SSPInvestigation to submit reports regarding the investigation of the incident.
