Chaudhry Nisar hints at new faction within PML N

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan hashinted a new faction within PML N if the political onslaught against himdoes not stop.

He said that Maryam Nawaz’s “sharp” tone could endanger the unity of thePakistan Muslim League-Nawaz adding former prime minister Nawaz Sharif wasnot a benefactor who grants favours.

The reports have surfaced that dozens of lawmakers from PML N are ready toquit party and join the new faction.

In a statement issued here, he said only God could grant favours to mankind.

“If Mian Sahib [Nawaz Sharif] believes he has done favours to people, therewill be people who had done favours to him,” Nisar said.

The former interior minister who has been associated with the PML-N fordecades, said: “I am forced to give a response to the terms used and poetryrecited by Nawaz Sharif yesterday and his daughter’s statement. I haveexercised a lot of patience and tolerance in the situations andcircumstances that had arisen in the past year. I have tried not to giveany reaction that may harm the party.”

The disgruntled PML-N leader said he had been sadly witnessing the attacksfrom within the party over the past eight to 10 months. “Some favouredjournalists were tasked to ask planted questions to target me. This is aninsult to me. The person used in these attacks neither has an ideologicalnor political relationship with the party,” he said in the statement,written on a plain paper in Urdu.

Khan said he had suspended his activity on the national politics to a largeextent and was working in his constituency.

Warning Maryam Nawaz and other rivals within the party, he quoted famouspoet Munir Niazi’s couplet: “Adab ki baat hai, warna Munir socho tau – Jaushakhs sunnta hai, who bol bi tau sakkta hai [It is a matter of respectMunir otherwise, the person who listens can also respond].” The Leaguersaid he reserved the right to respond if the “pawns” continued to targethim.

Reports earlier said Nawaz Sharif had parted ways with Chaudhry Nisar AliKhan. But Khan is thought to be close to Punjab Chief Minister ShehbazSharif – who replaced his brother as the PML-N president this month.
