Two KP Universities implement new dress code policy banning skin fitted jeans for girls

PESHAWAR: Two Khyber Pakhtunkhwa universities have implemented a new dresscode policy to ban skin fitted jeans, T-shirts and make-up among otherthings.

Following the directive of provincial governor Shah Farman, two KhyberPakhtunkhwa universities have implemented a new dress code policy to banjeans, T-shirts and make-up, among other things, Hazara University issuedits notification on January 6.

According to the notification, a new dress code policy must be followed forall students, faculty and staff of the university. According to the policy,girls are prohibited from wearing T-shirts, skinny jeans, heavy make-up andjewellery on campus. Girls also can’t even bring a fancy bag or purse.

Boys, on the other hand, were banned from wearing tight jeans, wristchains, long hair, ponytails and fashionable beards. Bacha Khan Universityin Charsadda also approved a similar recommendation in its syndicatemeeting.

Speaking on the occasion, educationist Dr Khadim Hussain said that thesepolicies were reminiscent of the Dark Ages and had nothing to do with thequality of education in the province.

According to former professor Dr Ijaz Khan, he has never heard of a policylike the implementation of university-level students in the developedworld. Such a mindset can stifle the thinking ability of our youth whichcan take us back to the days of militancy and terrorism, he added.

On the other hand, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Higher Education KamranBangash said that universities have the right to take such measures tobridge the gap between rich and poor. With the implementation of the dresscode policy, students will now focus on their education, while alsoreducing the financial burden on their parents.
