ISLAMABAD — Spokesperson of the Pakistan Army says that Iran and Pakistanhave excellent cooperation at all levels to strengthen the security ofjoint border.
Director General (DG) of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) MajorGeneral Asif Ghafoor said this while responding to a question of IRNA’sCorrespondent on Zahedan terror attack at a press conference with local andinternational media at army headquarters in Rawalpindi on Friday.
He said that the border issue between Pakistan and Iran has nothing to dowith our border issues with Afghanistan adding Pakistan has full faith inits borders with Iran.
“Yes an incident happened we are neighboring countries, we share border,porous border, unmanned border, but we have a very good coordination withIran,” he said.
He said: Iran and Pakistan have good coordination at different levelswhether it is local or between forces on Pak-Iran border, or between theleadership, military and civilian both.
“This terrorism is a regional threat, a regional challenge and it needs aregional approach, we are in good coordination with Iran and we wouldensure that such movement would not happen as third party is friend ofnone,” viewed the general.
In response to another question of IRNA’s correspondent regarding contactsbetween Iranian and Pakistani armed forces on Zahedan terrorist attack,Major General Asif Ghafoor said yesterday there was a meeting at armyheadquarters on the issue and simultaneously a meeting was held between themilitary forces of two countries at common border.
He told IRNA that future of cooperation between the armies of Iran andPakistan is very bright and we consider this cooperation to be excellent.
To another question he said Iran is a brotherly Muslim neighboring countrywith whom we have history of brotherly relations, we share 909 kilometersborder with Iran, now Iran is friendly, brotherly Muslim country and ourborder with Iran is unmanned as we have no threat from them.
Major General Asif Ghafoor said some times the terrorists exploit theseconditions but now Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan have very goodcoordination to stop the misuse of border freely by the terrorists.
He said as our focus had remained mostly on Pak-Afghan border so someterrorists occasionally become active on Iran-Pak border but on this wehave very good coordination with Iran and you must have remembered thatPakistan’s Army Chief had also visited Iran.
“Our articulation for coordination and security has improved considerably,we are thinking with Iran to fence the Iran-Pak border also having agreedto each other so that the border cannot be used by third party to exploitit against Iran or Pakistan,” said Pakistan army spokesperson.
Earlier Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had also saidIslamabad will extend all out cooperation to Iran over the recent terrorattack in its Sistan-Baluchestan.
A suicide attack on a bus carrying the Islamic Republic Guards Corps (IRGC)personnel martyred 27 and wounded 13 in southeastern Iran on February 12. Aterrorist group so-called Jaish al-Adl, affiliated to Al-Qaida, claimedresponsibility for the incident.
