VIENNA: Pakistani Athletes are shining in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 in Austria.

Pakistan has secure five medals in the ongoing Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 in Austria.

Pakistan has won one gold medal, three silver medals and a bronze medal in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 being held in Austrian cities of Graz and Schladming.

Sabahat Tariq won the only gold medal for Pakistan in as she won the Snowshoeing 100 metre race.

She beat opponents from Mongolia, Austria, Macau and Korea to win the race and the medal for her country.

Twelve Pakistani athletes are participating in the competition. Eight athletes are taking part in Snowshoeing whereas the rest will be playing cross country skiing.

The contingent include: Abdullah Muhammad, Ahmed Pervez, Amir Fatima, Aziz Usama, Ehsan Farah, Hameez-ud-din, Hamza Muhammad, Naeem Rimsha, Qazi Huzaifa, Tariq Sabahat, Tehmeena and Tufail Mehwish.

2,700 athletes from 107 countries are taking part in the Winter Games. They are playing for medals in nine different sports namely Alpine skiing, figure skating, floorball, floor hockey, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, speed skating and stick shooting.

The tournament kicked off on March 18thwith an opening ceremony and will come to a close on 24th March.
