Sher Shah Suri mosque in Bhera: Punjab government announces big conservation fund

*LAHORE: The Punjab government has released Rs5 million for conservation of around five centuries old mosque built by Sher Shah Suri at Bhera in Sargodha.*

The overall cost of the project was Rs42.598 million and a sum of Rs13.224 million was utilised last fiscal year to complete its underpinning, brick flooring, application of lime plaster on interior and exterior of domes, and restoration of fresco boon work.

Rs10 million amount was allocated for the year 2018-19.

The mosque is believed to have been built by Suri, who is considered to be a great builder, in 1541, as is inscribed on the entrance. It has three domes.

Sher Shah Suri has built dozens of mosques, forts and tombs. The Great Trunk (GT) Road was also built by him.
