ISLAMABAD: The Nigerian Air Force has achieved a significant victoryagainst terrorism by successfully destroying a major terrorist strongholdin the Sambisa Forest using Pakistan-manufactured JF-17 Thunder multi-rolefighter aircraft. The precision strike eliminated key insurgentinfrastructure deep inside the notorious forest, long considered a safehaven for Boko Haram remnants.
Military sources in Abuja confirmed that multiple JF-17 Block II aircraft,equipped with advanced avionics and precision-guided munitions, executedthe operation with remarkable accuracy. The mission demonstrated theaircraft’s superior standoff capability and all-weather operationaleffectiveness in challenging tropical environments.
The Nigerian Air Force praised the JF-17’s modern targeting systems,electronic warfare suite, and powerful KLJ-7A AESA radar for enabling thesuccessful engagement despite dense forest cover and adverse weatherconditions. No civilian casualties were reported, highlighting theprecision of Pakistani weaponry integration.
This operation marks one of the most substantial combat deployments of theJF-17 outside Pakistan, reinforcing the aircraft’s growing reputation as acost-effective fourth-generation fighter. Nigeria currently operates overtwenty JF-17 aircraft delivered under a 2016 agreement with PakistanAeronautical Complex.
Defence analysts view the successful strike as validation of Pakistan’sindigenous defence technology and its expanding footprint in Africanmilitary aviation markets. The operation has reportedly weakened terroristcommand structures in the Lake Chad region significantly.
The Nigerian military leadership has described the JF-17 as a game-changerin counter-insurgency operations, crediting its reliability and lowmaintenance requirements for sustained high-tempo missions againstextremist groups.
