ISLAMABAD – The Senate of Pakistan as the House of Federation, is hosting awide array of Asian Parliamentary representatives at Gwadar, the future hubof Asian trade, in connection with Committee meetings of AsianParliamentary Assembly (APA) from 29 to 31 October.
The Committee meetings will host Parliamentary delegates from 26 AsianCountries including Secretary General Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) andwill deliberate on matters of mutual interest to Asian region in terms ofpolitical affairs, economic trade and other regional issues in addition topassing historic declarations and resolutions.
The APA meetings at Gwadar aim to bring Parliamentary leadership togetherin promoting peace and development, said a press release on Monday.
Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani along with Leader of the House inSenate Senator Shibli Fraz, Senators Moulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, JavedAbbassi, Sitara Ayaz , Shamim Afridi and Secretary Senate Amjed PrevezMalik briefed the media about the objectives and arrangements of the event.The Chairman Senate said that Gwader is the future economic hub of thecountry and the purpose of holding of international conference is tohighlight economic importance of Pakistan as well as giving a message thatPakistan is a peaceful country with enormous investment potential. He saidthe new city of the Gwadar is being established as a centre of economicactivity for the whole region. The member countries of the APA woulddeliberate on future prospects for economic cooperation, he expressed.
Sadiq Sanjrani said that the inaugural ceremony will be held on 29 Octoberand will be followed by meeting of Special Committee on Creation of AsianParliament on the same day and meeting of Standing Committee on PoliticalAffairs on 30 October at a local hotel in Gwadar. The meetings will lead todiscussion on resolutions which will consequently be brought before theAssembly, he said.
The Chairman Senate said resolutions to be adopted by the APA StandingCommittee on Political Affairs relate to rule of law and judicialempowerment in the Asian Region, building prosperity in Asia throughFriendship and cooperation, bringing Asian Parliaments and governmentstogether for prosperity in Asia, promoting good parliamentary practices.The Senate of Pakistan will put before the Assembly the proposal of‘development through democracy’ suggesting this system of governance as themost important tool for peace, prosperity and development.
Asian Parliamentary Assembly traces its history back to the establishmentof the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) in September 1999in Dhaka, Bangladesh, when a group of Asian parliamentarians decided tojoin forces towards promoting peace and human rights in Asia. In the year2006 the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) was convertedinto Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Senate has played a vibrant and active role in making AsianParliamentary Assembly an active and useful tool for bringing Parliamentsof Asian countries together under one roof and discuss options to make theregion more inclusive in terms of growth, development and prosperity.
Holding the meetings in Gwadar is only natural for the Asian region whosefuture trade and business potential is going to be defined by thisstrategically located city of Pakistan. – APP
