Latif Khosa s party membership suspended by PPP

In Islamabad, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) took action on Friday bysuspending the party membership of senior leader Advocate Latif Khosa.

This decision follows a show-cause notice that was issued to him a week agofor his representation of Imran Khan in various court cases. AdvocateKhosa, who was a member of the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), hadbeen criticized by the party leadership for providing legal representationto Imran Khan, the leader of another political party, the PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), without prior approval from the PPP. The show-causenotice stated that he was defending Imran Khan in corruption cases where hehad been convicted and also in a case related to the Official Secrets Act(1923).

Additionally, the notice mentioned Khosa’s criticism of state policyregarding classified information during a speech at a lawyers’ convention.Advocate Khosa was given a seven-day deadline to respond to the show-causenotice, with the possibility of disciplinary action, including thewithdrawal of his PPP membership, if he failed to provide a satisfactoryexplanation.

Notably, Khosa has been representing Imran Khan in various legal matters, including the Toshakhan case that led to Imran’s imprisonment in August.Khosa, a prominent legal figure in the country, had expressed his intentionto lead a movement of lawyers in response to what he perceived asmistreatment and humiliation faced by lawyers.

Furthermore, he had drawn parallels between the ordeal of being trapped ina malfunctioning elevator at the Islamabad High Court building, along withother lawyers, and the challenges faced by the broader population inPakistan over the past 18 months, emphasizing the need for change.
