Further increase in Electricity prices approved by Nepra

Islamabad: Nepra has decided to increase electricity prices by 3.28 rupeesper unit during a three-month adjustment period, according to ARY News.This decision will also affect electric consumers.

Nepra’s decision to raise electricity prices has been forwarded to thefederal government, and the increase will be implemented after governmentapproval.

According to Nepra, this increase will impose an additional burden of 160billion rupees on electricity consumers. Nepra has stated that thisadjustment was made during the fourth three-month adjustment period of thefiscal year 2022-23.

Electricity consumers will have to make additional payments over the nextsix months, from October 2023 to March 2024. It should be noted thatearlier, the Minister of Energy, Muhammad Ali, had stated that an increasein gas prices is unavoidable, and they will soon announce changes inprices.

He mentioned that the gas prices would increase for household consumers butwould remain unchanged for low-income consumers. He also indicated thatthey would resolve the gas price issue soon, and changes in prices would beannounced shortly.
