Pakistani top diplomat summoned in New Delhi

India on Friday summoned a senior Pakistan High Commission official in NewDelhi and raised the issue of increasing accounts of abduction of women andminor girls of minority communities in Pakistan.

A protest was organised outside the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhion Monday morning by people belonging to the Sikh community. On Tuesday, acandlelight vigil would be held by around fifty women of the ShiromaniAkali Sal (Badal) Women Wing, India today has reported.

This comes after news of the recent abduction of a 17-year-old in Pakistan,who is the daughter of a Granthi.

The Ministry of External Affairs time and again has raised the matter ofminority persecution with Pakistani authorities in New Delhi and inIslamabad.

The report further says that local police are often accused of complicityin these cases by failing to investigate them properly. In the Sikhcommunity itself, more than 55 such instances of abductions and forcedconversions are said to have taken place in the past few months.
