BEIJING – China has warned that the United States would face consequencesif it does not immediately revoke the sanctions imposed on it for buyingfighter jets and missile systems from Russia. In a statement today, China’sdefense ministry spokesman Wu Qian said it is a normal act of cooperationbetween two sovereign countries and the United States has no right tointerfere in it.
He said the U.S. approach is a blatant violation of basic norms ofinternational relations, a full manifestation of hegemony and a seriousbreach of relations between two countries and their militaries.
The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on China’s EquipmentDevelopment Department, the branch of the military responsible for weaponsprocurement, after it engaged in significant transactions with Russia’smain arms exporter “Rosoboronexport”.
