Security Checkpost Attacked with Heavy Weapons, Bannu Police Timely Action Foils Terror Bid

Bannu, KP – In a significant counter-terrorism success, police in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa thwarted a major militant attempt to attack two checkposts late last night. The attacks, carried out by Khawarij elements using drones and sophisticated weaponry, were aimed at damaging sensitive thermal surveillance equipment.

The first attack was launched with a drone at the Sheikh Landak checkpost, while a simultaneous assault using small and heavy arms was executed at the Mazangah post. The attackers intended to cripple police surveillance capabilities, but swift, courageous action by law enforcement personnel neutralized the threat and forced the militants to flee.

According to officials, both police outposts were on high alert, allowing security personnel to mount an effective counteroffensive. No damage was reported to installations or personnel, and a full-scale search and clearance operation was immediately launched in surrounding areas to apprehend the fleeing terrorists.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Zulfiqar Hameed and RPO Bannu Sajjad Khan praised the valor and preparedness of the responding officers, announcing rewards for their exemplary service. “Such cowardly acts of violence cannot shake our resolve,” the IGP declared, reaffirming the force’s commitment to maintaining peace and defeating terrorism.

Authorities have heightened security across the region and reinforced monitoring of key installations amid an elevated threat level. The police remain on the frontlines in the fight against militancy, ready to respond decisively to any future threats.
