Pakistani female mountaineer Samina Baig makes history

Internationally acclaimed Pakistani mountaineer Samina Baig has become thecountry’s first woman to scale the world’s second highest mountain K2 onFriday morning.

She led the Seven climbers team from Gilgit Baltistan and successfullysummited K2 this morning, the summiteers including Eid Muhammad, BulbulKarim, Ahmed Baig, Rizwan Dad, Waqar Ali and Akber Hussain Sadpara.

K2, Chinese Qogir Feng, also called Mount Godwin Austen, called locallyDapsang or Chogori, the world’s second highest peak (28,251 feet [8,611metres]), second only to Mount Everest.

Hails from Gilgit-Baltistan, Samina Baig became the first Pakistani womanto climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, in 2013 at theage of 22.
