WASHINGTON – (Xinhua/APP):For a second time in two days, U.S. warplanes onTuesday intercepted Russian military planes off the coast of Alaska, theU.S. military said on Wednesday.
After being intercepted by two U.S. F-22s, two Russian Tu-95 bombers whichentered the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) exited and thenre-entered the Alaska ADIZ with two Su-35 fighter jets, said the NorthAmerican Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in a statement.
The Russian aircraft remained in international airspace, not entering U.S.or Canadian sovereign airspace, NORAD said.
It was the second time in two days that Russian warplanes were interceptedby the U.S. air forces.
On Monday, a total of four Russian bombers and two fighters wereintercepted by U.S. F-22 fighter jets off the coast of Alaska.
