SRINAGAR – Police investigations revealed occupied Kashmir girl was heldcaptive inside a temple, sedated and repeatedly raped before her murder.Police has filed chargesheet against eight persons in the case.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Crime Branch issued a press release today inthe wake of misinformation being spread about the gang rape and murder ofthe eight-year-old Kathua girl.

The press release said that reports in a section of media about the Kathuarape-murder case were false and that medical experts confirmed thesedation, sexual assault and subsequent murder of the eight-year-old girl.

“For the last couple of days, a section of print/electronic media haspublished/broadcast information/reports shared on the social media sites aswell, which are far from truth,” the Crime Branch said in the press release.

In the last few days, there have been several reports and social mediaposts thta have claimed that the kathua victim was not raped.

“Constrained by the reports, it is to place on record that on the basis ofopinion furnished by medical experts, it was confirmed that the victim wasfound subjected to sexual assault by the accused,” said the press releaseissued today.

“Accordingly, on the basis of medical opinion, Section 376 (D) of theRanbir Penal Code was added in the case. The medical opinion alsoestablished beyond doubt that the victim was held in captivity andadministered sedatives and the cause of her death was asphyxia leading tocardiopulmonary arrest,” the PR said.

The Crime Branch presented a chargesheet in the court of law aftercompletion of all legal formalities of investigation. The investigatingagency is also in the process of submitting a supplementary chargesheet.

Section 376 (D) deals with gang Rape followed by death or persistentvegetative state of the victim and prescribes punishment with imprisonmentfor life.

The girl, belonging to a Bakerwal Muslim family, was kidnapped on January10 and her body found on January 17 near Rasana village in Hiranagar tehsilin Kathua district.
