Automotive Sector to bring investment worth 1.5 billion in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Aamir Allahwala, former chairman Pakistan Association ofAutomotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers, on Tuesday told a Senatepanel that manufacturing of Suzuki’s Mehran car will come to an end withinthe next two months.

He was briefing the Senate’s Standing Committee on Industries andProduction which was presided over by Senator Ahmed Khan.

Allahwala said most parts of the vehicle, including engines, are being madein Pakistan.

Amir Allahwala further informed the committee that 96 per cent ofmotorcycles are being made in Pakistan. We are exporting motorcycles toAfghanistan while the cars are being exported to Nepal and Sri Lanka,” hetold.

“An estimated 2.4 million people are associated with the automotivemanufacturing industry in the country,” he told the upper House.

The committee was also informed about the number of cars being importedby Pakistan which stands at 75000. To which, the committee has soughtdetails of the imported vehicles.

Allahwala also revealed that “nine automotive manufacturers were working tobring an investment worth $1.50 billion to Pakistan”.
