BARCELONA - Spain says it intends to officially recognize the state of Palestine.
The announcement has been made by Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell in Madrid.
He said his country is now awaiting a unanimous EU resolution in this regard.
According to Borrell, his government plans to set a deadline by which the EU should reach consensus on the issue.
He said if the deadline passes without consensus being reached, Madrid will unilaterally acknowledge the state of Palestine.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Foreign Ministry had commended Spanish announcement terming it a very encouraging move.
