NEW DELHI - Pakistan High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood met Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj earlier this week, officials said.
Swaraj discussed the current state of affairs in bilateral relations with Mahmood, who officially took charge as Pakistan's envoy to India last month. She is believed to have asked Pakistan to review its position on Kulbhushan Jadhav, the ‘RAW’ agent who was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court earlier this year.
The Indian minister said that for any progress in bilateral relations Pakistan must drop all charges against Jadhav and send him back to India, media reports said. Jadhav's case is currently being heard by the International Court of Justice which earlier this year stayed his death sentence.
This was Mahmood's first meeting with a top government official after arriving in India. He is also expected to meet NSA Ajit Doval and foreign secretary S Jaishankar in the coming days.
Earlier on Thursday, Swaraj announced that India would grant medical visas to deserving cases on the auspicious occasion of Diwali including Pakistanis.
