LASHKARGAH: As many as 12 civilians were killed in an airstrike conducted in Musa Kala district of Helmand province on Monday.
Former Deputy Chairman of Helmand council, Mullah Majeed Akhundzada told media persons that the airplanes targeted the house of a local resident, identified as Habibullah, on the bank of river in the western outskirts of Musa Kala district centre.
He added that at least 12 members of the family including Habibullah, his wife and children, were martyred in the airstrike.
He would not say if the airstrike was conducted by Afghan or foreign forces.
A resident of the area who arrived in Lashkargah said all the members of the ill-fated family perished in the airstrike. The villagers recovered the dead bodies from the debris of the destroyed home
However, Administrator of Washer District, Mullah Ibrahim Akhund confirmed the airstrike targeted heroin laboratories in the Gorgam area, not the houses.
