LAHORE – Over the Punjab Institute of Cardiology Lahore attack incident, Inquiry Report blames two senior police officers for negligence.

Two senior police officials have been declared guilty by an investigation committee – formed on orders of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar – in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) incident.

Additional IG Azhar Hameed Khokar submitted the report to Usman Bazdar on Monday (yesterday) which maintains that the incident occurred due to negligence of SSP Operations Lahore Muhammad Naveed and SP Civil Lines Dost Muhammad Khosa.

The report states that SP Dost Muhammad Khosa did not reach the PIC on time when lawyers held their rally whereas SSP Operations Muhammad Naveed failed to take any step even after reaching the incident spot.

It has further been stated that the police officials, who were deployed near the hospital, were not properly guided. The committee concluded that hesitation in taking any action worsened the matter.

The provincial cabinet will deliberate on the findings by the investigation committee in the light of its report in next meeting and decide to take action against the officers.

It is pertinent here to mention a violent clash had erupted between hundreds of lawyers and doctors in December, 2019 which left at least three people dead when the charged lawyers stormed into the PIC and broke windows of the emergency ward and several vehicles parked nearby.

Two FIRs (first information reports) were registered against over 250 lawyers who were involved in the attack.
