Kulbhushan Yadav meeting with wife, mother being made on Indian government request: Officials

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesman said convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother have been permitted to meet him purely on humanitarian grounds.

Addressing the media at the Foreign Office here, he said, “Pakistan decided to permit the meeting of the wife of Commander Jadhav with him purely on humanitarian grounds.”

FO spokesman Dr. Faisal said, “The Indian side subsequently also requested that the mother may accompany the wife. Pakistan has accepted the Indian request.”

Hence, he added Pakistan has issued visas to both the ladies for a meeting on December 25.

He remarked the two ladies will meet the Indian spy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We await further details from India in this regard. Pakistan is ready to permit media interaction with the wife and mother of Commander Jadhav. We await Indian decision in this regard,” he added.

Regarding a question on the possible immediate execution of Commander Kulbhushan Jhadev and this being his last meeting with his family, Dr. Faisal said, “Let me assure you that the Commander is under no threat of immediate execution and his mercy petitions are still pending.”

He also highlighted that the mother and wife of Commander Jhadev are being provided with a meeting with him in the light of Islamic traditions and based on purely humanitarian grounds.

Earlier, Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued visas to the mother and wife of convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav to visit Islamabad.

Foreign Office spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal confirmed the issuance of visa to Jadhav’s family on Twitter.

Kulbhushan Jadhav’s family is expected to arrive in Pakistan this Saturday.

At a meeting on Monday, Pakistan’s National Security Committee cleared visas for Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother Avantika Jadhav and his wife.

High-ranking military and Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials met on Tuesday afternoon to decide details of the Jadhav family’s visit.

Pakistan has offered a visa for Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother on humanitarian grounds and at New Delhi’s request.
