LAHORE - Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority has been established to provide clean drinking water to people of the province, says a handout issued by the Governor's House on Sunday.
The handout says the governor Punjab had formally approved the authority by signing the bill already approved by the Punjab Assembly, adding the governor would be patron in chief of the authority.
As per the information, the governor signed the bill sent by the Punjab Assembly for establishment of Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority. "Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority will provide clean drinking water to 110 million people of Punjab and it will install water filtration plants across Punjab besides water filtration plants in jails, hospitals, and universities", it said.
Meanwhile, Governor Muhammad Sarwar has said the Authority will provide clean drinking water to people of Punjab, adding 80% people are deprived of clean drinking water and 11 Lakh people in Punjab annually die due to drinking contaminated drinking water.
He said the present government would relieve people of problem of contaminated drinking water, claiming 2 lakh people visit Children Hospital due to water borne diseases.
The governor said 50% people were admitted to hospitals due to water borne diseases.
Governor Sarwar said:" We will provide clean drinking water to people of Punjab".
