PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for the first time inPakistan has recognized the value of socio-cultural promotion at grass rootlevel for inculcating enlightened values in society on the pattern of defunctNational Cadet Corps (NCC).
Taking cognizance of the situation, the office of Chief Secretary KhyberPakhtunkhwa has come up with an idea of Good Citizen Corps (GCC) aimed at inculcatingthe values of tolerance. Cooperation and promotion of Civic rights and dutiesthrough focused educational training said a hand out issued on Wednesday.
In a meeting in Chief Secretary Office, the Elementary and Secondary EducationDepartment and Culture, Sports, Tourism, Archaeology and Youth Affairs.Department were directed to prepare a list of items for socio-culturalactivities along with verifiable implementation and monitoring mechanism forthe purpose as soon as possible.
Acertificate in this regard will be awarded to the students and the dedicatedmarks will be added up to their total marks secured in annual examinationconducted by respective educational boards.
It is worth mentioning that under NCC, students were imparted training of thefirst aid activities, use of basic weapons and to tackle emergencies inwar-time situation, However, NCC was discontinued in 2002.
Few weeks ago, on the direction of Chief Secretary’s office, E&SEdepartment floated 47 topics on ethics to all schools with the directions thatteachers should impart lectures on the topics to students every week.
