President Arif Alvi under fire over remarks regarding Palestine-Israel conflict

PPP Senator Raza Rabbani, during a Senate session chaired by SenateChairman Sadiq Sanjrani, called for President Arif Alvi’s resignation overhis statement on Palestine. Rabbani emphasized that the President’ssuggestion of a “one-state solution” contradicts Pakistan’s longstandingposition of supporting a two-state solution.

He urged the caretaker foreign minister to inform lawmakers about thegovernment’s actions following the president’s statement and highlightedthe escalating situation in Gaza, expressing concern over the passivestance of the Muslim world.

In response, caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani acknowledged theobjection’s validity, stating that the Presidency issued the statementwithout consulting the Foreign Ministry.

Jilani affirmed Pakistan’s consistent stance on a two-state solution andmentioned that an explanatory statement was issued after the president’sremarks, sent to the OIC Secretariat and the United Nations. The Senatesession was adjourned until 10:30 am on Friday.
