QUETTA – At least three people have been killed in a gun attack on a coalmine in southwestern Pakistan, local media reported Sunday.
Reports quoting sources said the coal miners were killed when gunmen openedfire on them in the Zalawan area of Shahrag.
According to Levies sources, unidentified assailants opened fire andmanaged to escape after killing miners. After the incident, security forcescordoned off the area and started searching for the attackers.
The deceased have not been identified yet but Levies force has beendispatched to transport the bodies to the hospital, per reports.
Reports also revealed that the attack occurred at a time when Harnai peoplewere protesting at the Quetta-Harnai National Highway in support of thedemands of the Harnai Bachao Tehreek.
The agitators staged a sit-in for the basic necessities in the districtincluding electricity, water, etc. They reportedly burned tires and closedthe National Highway for traffic as well.
Recently, security forces conducted two operations in the Mastung andHarnai districts of the province, killing 15 terrorists, including a BLAcommander.
Earlier this year, the killing of 11 coal miners in the Mach area ofBalochistan sparked an outcry after armed militants kidnapped them and tookthem to a nearby area before opening fire at close range.
Daesh later claimed responsibility for the attack, through its news agencyvia its Telegram communications channel.
