ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Lieutnant GeneralNadeem Raza as Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC), a statementissued by PM office stated.
Lt General Ndeem Raza will replace General Zubair Hayat, who is retiring onNovember 27. As Chief of General Staff, Lt Gen Raza worked closely withArmy Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa.
He got commission in 10 Sindh Regiment in Pakistan Army in September 1985.He was designated as commandant of Pakistan Military Academy. He alsoheaded the infantry division in South Waziristan.
Raza had served as Core Commander Rawalpindi in 2016. He was discharginghis duties as the Chief of General Staff since August 2018.
The CJCSC, in principle, is the highest-ranking military officer across thearmed forces.
He serves as the government’s top adviser on matters related to nationaldefence and security. His job description also includes cross-servicecooperation in all military processes.
Meanwhile, the statement further stated that the notification forreappointment of General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chief of Army Staff foranother tenure had already been issued on August 19, 2019.
Gen Qamar was set to retire on November 29 on completion of his three-yearterm. However, after extension he would serve as head of the army untilNovember 2022.
