ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has been re-elected to the Executive Board of theUnited Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)for the next four-year term.
The members of Executive Board are elected by UNESCO’s General Conferenceaccording to a system of regional grouping. During the elections held atthe UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Pakistan secured 154 votes out of180. Pakistan enjoys the distinction of being a continuous member of theUNESCO Executive Board since 1978, local media reported.
Following the election, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi congratulatedAmbassador of Pakistan to France Moin-ul-Haq and his team. “Election to theUNESCO Executive Board this evening in Paris is a testimony to Pakistan’sstellar contributions in promoting International cooperation in the fieldsof education, science and culture,” Qureshi added.
