LAHORE – Following the traffic reforms instructions outlines by the LahoreHigh Court, Police Traffic Reforms Committee convened a meeting chaired byChief Operating Officer Akbar Nasir Khan at Punjab SafeCities Authority Qurban Lines.
The forum approved the following provisions. E-Challanaccount to be linked with Driving License eligibility andvalidity in that, the traffic laws violations will directlyaffect score integral to maintain the license. It was alsoresolved that to encompass, otherwise a big number ofunauthorized youth riders and drivers, on roads, eligibilityage bar for obtaining driving license would be lowered from18 to 16 years and this would require amendment in MotorVehicle Ordinance accordingly. The forum unanimously agreedto this provision to discipline and secure the now underagestudent commuters.It was also resolved that the data of E-Challan defaulterswill be linked with Excise and Taxation department’s databaseso that to block their vehicle data in case of non-paymentand indifference to the fines. Arrangements are underway toensure clearance of such liabilities e.g. Token tax andE-Challans etc. at the time of sale or purchase of vehicles.
It was decided that sale and purchase of vehicles and bikeswill be viable only to the valid driving license holders.Home Department to share all the recommendations withgovernment through summary for final approval and incorporationin Motor Vehicle Ordinance act, informed the Spokesperson PSCA.The meeting was attended by officials from Excise andTaxation department, Regional Transport Authority and LahoreTransport Company.
