In a first, PTI government forms Pakistan Medical Commission after dissolving PMDC

ISLAMABAD – In a first, PTI government forms Pakistan Medical Commissionafter dissolving PMDC,The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

PMDC has been dissolved after President Dr Arif Alvi promulgated anordinance.

The building of PMDC will be sealed for a week while the record was takeninto custody on a weekly holiday. The president has approved a neworganisation Pakistan Medial Commission (PMC) which will be run by anine-member body and the head of the commission would be called president,local media reported. The new medical commission is expected to startoperations within a week.

In a statement by the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS), PMC shallbe a body corporate consisting of the Medical and Dental Council, theNational Medical and Dental Academic Board and the National MedicalAuthority, which will act as a Secretariat of the Commission.

The NHS statement also added that the new ordinance will begin a new erawith reference to regulation and control of the medical profession byestablishing uniform minimum standard of medical education and training andrecognition of qualifications in medicine and dentistry.

“In order to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to ongoing medical anddental admissions, the Ministry of NHS will be taking necessary stepsimmediately for the supervision and overseeing of the admissions process toensure it is properly completed,” statement added.
