Right-arm fast bowler, Haris Rauf, has resumed his bowling practice at theNational Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore as Pakistan prepares to announceits 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
During the recent Asia Cup Super 4 match against India on September 10,Rauf decided not to bowl as a precautionary measure. His priority wassafeguarding his long-term fitness and avoiding any potential aggravationof his condition.
Rauf had experienced mild discomfort in his right flank during the match,which prompted the medical staff to conduct a precautionary MRI.Fortunately, the medical tests revealed no tear, raising hopes for hisswift recovery and possible inclusion in the World Cup squad.
In a related injury concern, Pakistan’s pace bowler, Naseem Shah, alsoencountered an injury scare during the same match. After delivering thesecond ball of his final over, he left the field while holding his wrist.
This injury came on top of his previous shoulder injury suffered whiletrying to prevent a boundary in the first Super 4 stage match againstBangladesh. In response to these injury concerns, Pakistan took proactivesteps by calling up Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan as backup options forthe pace bowling duo.
The decision to include these replacements was driven by Rauf and Naseem’sminor issues during the match against India, underscoring Pakistan’scommitment to assembling a strong and well-prepared squad for the ICC Men’sODI World Cup 2023.
