NEW DELHI – In a surprise the Indian government has announced thecancellation of Indian foreign minister meetings with Pakistan foreignminister.
India on Friday cancelled a meeting between foreign ministers of India andPakistan, Indian media reported, which was scheduled to take place in NewYork.
On Thursday, a spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)confirmed that Qureshi and Swaraj will meet on the sidelines of the UNGA inNew York later this month.
The spokesperson, however, had not specified a date for the meeting, butsources informed Geo News that the meeting was scheduled for September 27.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar confirmed thecancellation of the meeting.
The decision for the foreign ministers’ meet was taken after Prime MinisterImran Khan wrote a letter to Indian Premier Narendra Modi.
