DG ISPR Responds over May 9 Case Perpetrators and Facilitators

ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR)Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that those involved inthe May 9 incidents, along with their facilitators and planners, must beheld accountable under the law.

During an informal conversation with journalists on Thursday, he dismisseda recent newspaper column that claimed the Army Chief had given aninterview in Brussels. “The column being referred to was actually about apicture from an event in Brussels attended by hundreds of people. Nointerview was given by the Army Chief,” he clarified. “There was no mentionof PTI, nor any discussion about an apology. This was merely an attempt bya journalist to gain personal publicity.”

The DG ISPR emphasized that those responsible for the May 9 riots wouldface justice. “Pakistan is a country destined to change the fate of theregion, which is why it comes under repeated attacks. Our youth mustunderstand the history and legacy of this ideological state,” he said.

Speaking about India, he noted, “India believed it could discredit thePakistan Army through terrorist proxies and facilitators. But when Pakistanresponded forcefully, India and its proxies themselves lost credibility. The world saw that Pakistan countered its enemies on both frontssimultaneously.”

He added that despite India’s vast military resources, Pakistan provedresilient. “Some thought India’s billion-dollar military machine couldeasily defeat Pakistan, especially if it attacked alongside terroristproxies like *fitna al-khawarij* and *fitna Hindustan*. But the worldwitnessed Pakistan successfully confront its enemies on both sides.”

Commenting on internal security, the DG ISPR highlighted that the decisionto dismantle illegal networks—taken collectively by all political partiesin 2012—still awaits full implementation. “When we talk about expellingillegal Afghan residents involved in crime, certain political and criminalelements within our country start creating issues,” he said.

He stressed the importance of implementing the National Action Plan (NAP),noting, “The governance gap is being filled daily with the sacrifices ofthe Army, police, and law enforcement agencies, who continue to shed theirblood for the nation.”
